NFL Blockbuster Trade

49ers Trade up to the No.3 overall pick
with huge Pre-Draft trade with the Dolphins
Adam Schefter broke the news that the San Francisco 49ers have traded up to the No.3 overall pick in the draft giving up the No. 12 pick, a 2021 third-round pick, and first-round picks in the 2022 and 2023 draft. This is a massive trade, and, in my opinion, I think the 49ers paid too much, but this is the price teams will pay to move up in the draft to get one of the top quarterbacks. Kyle Shanahan has clearly seen an opportunity to improve his quarterback and is going all-in to get the guy he wants. My initial thoughts were they would take Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, but after hearing the 49ers GM say that Garoppolo is their man for this season, I now think that Trey Lance will be their guy.
Lance is a talented quarterback but could do with a year on the sidelines learning from Garoppolo. Lance did have a very good Pro Day, which probably got Shanahan thinking that he needs to get his guy. Still, we did see in college that Lance does need to improve his mechanics and work on his pocket presence, but a guy like Garoppolo, who learned from the best, is the right man to sit behind for a year. I would be shocked if the 49ers didn’t take a quarterback with the No.3 pick, as it looks like this is all they need to make a Super Bowl run once again.
Dolphins trade back into the top 10
with a blockbuster Pre-Draft trade with the Eagles
Shortly after the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers trade, Miami was on the move again using the No.12 pick, No.123, and a 2022 first-round pick to acquire the No.6 pick and No.156 in this year’s draft. It was reported that the Eagles were interested in the No.3 pick as they wanted Zach Wilson, but after they couldn’t get a deal done with Miami, there was probably no need for them to stick around in the top 10. It now looks like that Jalen Hurts is locked in as the starter for the Eagles for at least this year, so hopefully, he can show he’s their guy for the future. The Eagles will most likely look to take a top receiver and hope that Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith falls to them at the 12th spot.
For the Dolphins, there still could be a top quarterback on the board when the 6th pick comes around. After they traded to the No.12 pick, I thought that Tua Tagovailoa’s starting job was safe, but now I’m not too sure. The Dolphins will most likely have at least one top quarterback available to them along with all the top receivers, so they still have a lot of good options with the 6th pick. They could also go defense to try to lock up their defensive line and turn them into a solid unit for the future. Whatever decision the Dolphins make, it’s clear they have done some excellent business, and the team will be in good hands in the future.
